Mateo is a voice and communication coach.

Much of his focus is voice aesthetics and functional voice work, which covers voice feminisation and masculinisation, as well as therapy for simpler functional issues such as vocal nodules.

No two voices are the same

Every voice is its own thing, and he tries to treat it that way.

There is no single template for how a voice should sound. Sessions are shaped around finding a voice that feels like yours, one you can rely on comfortably, day after day. That holds whether you are starting from scratch or refining what you already have.

A note from Mateo

Hi there!

I’m Mateo, a voice and communication coach. My background is in Clinical Phonetics and Applied Linguistics, and my master’s thesis was a case study on voice therapy with a trans woman. It later became a peer-reviewed paper in a Croatian speech sciences journal, the first of its kind, so this work has been part of my life for a while now, both academically and in practice.

Most of what I do is voice aesthetics and functional voice work. I’m less interested in “how you speak” in the presentation sense and more in how your voice actually works, sounds, and feels. That covers voice feminisation and masculinisation, and also therapy for simpler functional issues like vocal nodules. Every voice is its own thing, and I try to treat it that way.

The way I work is built around self-listening. We slowly get you tuned in to your own vocal instrument through the sounds it makes, so you start noticing what your voice is doing rather than just following instructions I give you. Once you can hear it, you can change it. The exercises we do are not practised in a vacuum, but rather immediately connected to speech.

I use he/him pronouns. I’m also involved with a Croatian NGO working on trans rights, which is something I care about outside of work too.

If you’re on the waiting list, we’ll be in touch soon to figure out where you’re at and what you’re after. In the meantime, feel free to email me with any questions at vocalcoach@imago.tg.
